About the book

The book is an attempt to bring together the fundamental principles and aerodynamic and thermodynamic theories that we used to design and operate all kinds of aircraft propulsive devices. A modern aircraft engine uses cutting edge technology from almost all branches of science and engineering. While various versions of engines have ruled the sky, the fundamental principles on which the aircraft engines that have been developed over last 100 years continue to be used. The book attempts to bring all these types within its coverage.

The book is primarily meant for the introductory course on aircraft propulsion. It may be offered over one or two semesters in the senior years of undergraduate program in Aeronautical/Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering branches or as a full semester course in the post graduate programs. The coverage is also expected to be useful to engineering professionals working in the field of aircraft engine. The book would enable the students and young professionals to move towards design and performance analysis of the engines and its compoents, and would also motivate them to participate in further training and research and development activities in these fields.
