THE GROUP:
This is an initiative towards the cutting edge technology in scientific computing at IIT Bombay. The team is working under Prof. J C Mandal, Aerospace Engineering Dept. IIT-Bombay. We help each other by working as a group in exploring, developing and sharing the OpenFOAM software. We conduct tutorial sessions and workshops for freshers. We are trying to implement new solvers in different fields of scientific computing and solving problems related to structures, fluid flow, combustion etc
ABOUT OpenFOAM: "OpenFOAM is first and foremost a C++ library, used primarily to create executables, known as applications. The applications fall into two categories: solvers, that are each designed to solve a specific problem in continuum mechanics; and utilities, that are designed to perform tasks that involve data manipulation." One of the strengths of OpenFOAM is that new solvers and utilities can be created by its users with some pre-requisite knowledge of the underlying method, physics and programming techniques involved.

Dr Kota Harinarayana was the Programme Director (LCA) at Aeronautical Development Agency. His legendary leadership skills in inter-disciplinary team building, and forging partnership with educational institutions and industry, and his natural aptitude for systems design saw the LCA spring out of the drawing board and take wings. LCA Story began in 1984 and reached its peak on 4th January 2001 when LCA TD-1 took off on its maiden flight. LCA (Tejas) was given Initial Operational Clearance (IOC) in January 2011 paving its way into IAF. Dr Kota is ME from IISc and PhD from IITB. He was decorated by GoI with Padma Shri and is a distinguished alumnus of IIT Bombay and is currently Distinguished Professor at IIT Bombay. |

It is indeed wonderful to look up snaps after decades have passed. Can you spot some one you know in the photograph below? If anyone in the picture happens to visit the web site kindly write back to tell us identifying self and others in this picture, where are they now and how to contact them. There are 2 faculty members in the picture; one who is still with us in the department and another who retired and settled in Hyderabad. |

Saptarshi who continues to be around as part of Satellite project and Amardeep Singh who frequents the campus as part of IdeaForge joined them. There was a mix of higher studies, working professionals and entrepreneurs in the group. They addressed a student gathering for an hour, held discussions with some individual students, visited Student Satellite Project room and finally the new Flight Simulator developed by our students. After lunch at Guest House they took leave promising to return after a year. |
