Don’t overload the pilot or distract him from flying

  • Navigation difficulties
  • Impaired operating efficiency
  • Medical (crew/passengers)
  • VFR in IMC (not necessarily in cloud)
  • Fuel shortage
  • Loss of communication
• Information needed to calculate Action Time Available
  • Remaining endurance and end of day light
  • Flight conditions and pilot experience & navigational capability
  • Structural integrity of the aircraft
• Initial messages to pilot include
  • Re-assurance and instruction (orbit, heading etc.)
  • Lowest safe altitude and remain VMC or visual ground contact
