Federation of Indian Pilots
Established in August 1996, as an organisation of professional pilots to monitor,
advise and improve flight safety, the Federation of Indian Pilots (FIP) is a
non-political, advisory, specialist aviation body, structured to provide a
democratic forum for evolving and promoting professional view points, within the
aviation fraternity, to attain the highest level of aviation safety.
The FIP serves the dual purpose of being a counterpoint to, yet working in
tandem with, the regulatory and governmental bodies which frame policies and
monitor adherence to standard practices. Because of its non-political stance,
professional, unbiased research is undertaken and technical expertise is offered
on any matter which impacts upon the aviation industry.
Our Mission
"Proactively infuse and enhance Flight Safety by ensuring transparency and
integrity of Flight Safety standards in the air and on the ground".
Aims & Objectives
The aims of the Federation are:
1. To improve professional knowledge amongst pilots in particular and
all aviators in general.
2. To interact with government and other professional bodies,
national and international, for assimilation and dissemination of
professional information
3. To arrange symposiums, lectures, and meetings for enhancing
knowledge on latest developments in the field of aviation.
4. To help young and budding aviators, in any possible manner, to
achieve high standards of competence in their field.
5. Advice, interact and help any government agency to improve the
overall safety standards of aviation in the country.
6. Conduct and encourage research in the fields of Flighty Safety and

SERVICES
Loss of Licence
It is our endeavour to lessen, if not totally eliminate, the trauma that every pilot
undergoes, during his flying career, of being grounded due to medical reasons or
for professional reasons, such as an incident or an accident.
The medical aspect has been taken care of with the Loss of Licence Policy that
we have recently introduced, to cover the pilot to the extent of one year’s total
emoluments including all allowances, at a very favourable rate, which is in
addition to and inspite of what is given by the Employer. The office has been
inundated with applicants for this policy. For further details, click here
Institute of Aviation Technology
Under the auspices of the FIP an Institute of Aviation & Aviation Safety has been
established with the purpose of qualifying Indian ATPL holders to obtain a B.Sc.
(Bachelor of Science) degree. The Secretariat is also working towards having
this degree recognised by various universities for the purpose of higher studies.
For details and the modalities of attaining this degree, click here.
The rationale underscoring the necessity of this long-overdue recognition for
pilots is explained in the President's page
FIP's Research Project (New)
Despite the fact that CFIT accidents plateaued recently, its resurgence as the
main cause of air accidents this year, must seriously concern all of us in the
Aviation industry. Many inquiries into CFIT accidents have concluded that the
pilot(crew) failed to respond, ignored or was confused about the warnings that
preceded impact. However, within this ambit of research into CFIT, the human
element, its capacity and capability appear not to have been delved into with the
importance that it deserves.
Realising the critical need for such research, which would benefit aviation
worldwide, the FIP has initiated research into "HUMAN RESPONSES TO
WARNINGS IN EMERGENCY SITUATIONS" and has earmarked an expert
team. For details click here.
Pilot's Placement Services (PPS)
The demand for qualified pilots is steadily increasing. These pilots would need
help and guidance which the PPS would fulfill. For details click here
Other Services
Other services provided by the FIP include a database on Accidents and
Incidents in Indian aviation over the last 60 years. This page also provides
information on the FIP's interaction with international and national aviation related
bodies. For details of available services, click here

FIP's Rolling Trophy : (NEW)
This trophy is to acclaim and reward professionalism, enlighten fellow aviators
on similar potential hazards, make the public aware of the calibre and capability
of professional pilots and the safety consciousness of the parent company
employing such highly trained and dedicated pilots whose example is to be
emulated. For details click here.
FIP's INTERACTION WITH AVIATION BODIES:
The FIP maintains a continuous rapport with various aviation agencies to ensure
a common working platform from which safety issues can be addressed.
Regulatory Bodies
The FIP is in constant touch with both international and national regulatory
bodies. The thrust at the present moment is to establish and maintain close
rapport with the DGCA & AAI and act in tandem with them to improve safety in
the Indian skies. Since its inception the FIP has undertaken specific tasks on the
request of the DGCA and AAI. For details visit our Regulatory Bodies page.
Confederation of Indian Industry (CII)
The President and Director of the FIP are members of the 'Task Force on
Aviation Safety' initiated by the CII in December 1998, which has been
constituted to oversee the flight safety scenario of Indian skies. Two meetings
have already ben held. The progress can be obtained from the CII page.
Institute of Aviation Medicine (IAM)
The FIP interacts closely with the IAM. Various aerospace research projects
have been undertaken by the IAM at the FIP's request. Aviation Medicine issues
like The Treadmill Test by Wg. Cdr. Rajeev Kapoor and Sleep and Jet Lag by
Wg. Cdr. P. Tyagi, can be perused on the IAM page.
Human Engineering Panel of Aeronautical Research & Devleopment
Board
The FIP was invited to deliver a presentation at the Seminar, Workshop on
Collaborative Studies: XXIV Human Engineering Panel Of Aeronautical Research
& Development Board conducted by the IAM in July 99. Our President Capt. M.
R. Wadia, enlightened the learned audience with his veracious account,
supported by ICAO statistics, of the state of aviation safety that pervades the
Indian skies. He has also been appointed as a member of the XXIV Human
Engineering Panel Of Aeronautical Research & Development Board. Updates on
this board will be carried on the AR&DB Page.
One study on "Auditory and Extra-auditory Effects of Noise Stress and

L.T.M Medical College and Hospital, Sion, Mumbai, is available on the Articles
page.
International Federation of Airline Pilots Associations (IFALPA)
The IFALPA was founded in 1948 to represent the interest of airline pilots at all
levels within the industry. It is a worldwide Federation of national pilots'
associations structured to provide a democratic forum for developing and
promoting a common pilot viewpoint on all matters impacting upon the piloting
profession and to provide a system of mutual support for members experiencing
difficulties in the social and professional fields. IFALPA interacts with all major
aviation bodies, including ICAO, IATA, ACI, SAE, JAA, FAA.
The FIP is a recognised pilot association of IFALPA and has conducted three
international seminars at Mumbai with the active participation of the President
and Principal Officers. A continuing close liaison is being maintained with
IFALPA and ICAOto keep abreast of modern global aviation trends. Details of
interaction are available at the IFALPA Page. Also a direct link to the IFALPA
website has been provided in this page.
Internation Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO)
Capt. M. R. Wadia and Capt. R. J. Darukhanawala of the FIP attended the 50th
Anniversary of IFALPA held at ICAO Headquarters in Montreal in 1998, where
they interacted with the ICAO Principal Officers. Capt. Peter Reiss, IFALPA's
appointed representative on the panel of the Unlawful Interference Group
accepted an invitation to spearhead a seminar on 'Security from the Ground,
Up', which was held in Mumbai in March, 1999.
The President of ICAO, Dr. Assad Kotaite, has congratulated the FIP on its
initiative to establish a Institute of Aviation Technology in India and has directed
the Regional ICAO representative to assist the FIP with advice and
documentation. For further details click the ICAO Page. A direct link has been
provided to the ICAO website.
Flight Safety Foundation (FSF)
The FSF was established in 1947 by the leaders of the avaition industry to
provide an independent, neutral forum; a place where they could meet in a
non-competitive environment to discuss aviation safety concerns. It's sole
mission was to focus on aviation safety, identify problems, seek their solutions
and disseminate safety information.
Mr. Stuart Matthews, Chairman, President and CEO of the FSF, visited India for
the AAHRM Conference in October, 1998. He met the President & Managing
Committee members of the FIP and suggested integrating all the operators and
allied support services into one forum where interaction on common safety
issues could be discussed and resolved. The FIP has taken this initiative in the
shape of "National Integration of Air Safety Programmes" and has invited every
airline and aviation organisation in India to integrate efforts and resources to a
common pool for better understanding and information dissemination.
