Activities

The Aerospace Department has enlarged many fold and academics and getting past the course-work is not the only thing that students do now. Several ventures have been initiated by enterprising students and have blossomed; nurtured by the department and the professors. These are the things that have made Aerospace Engineering Department one of the foremost in IIT Bombay and it is now making its mark at a national and international level. Below is the overview of the several of activities and initiatives in the Aerospace Department.

Student Satellite Program:

A dedicated group of students have been working on a nanosatellite in collaboration with ISRO which will be launched on a PSLV by 2009. Although the project was initiated by an enterprising group of students in the department; the program has now expanded and involves students of many Departments and batches.

Aeropreneurs:

This involves talks by people who have made a break-through in the world of aerospace and chosen entrepreneurship as their lifestyle. This time the participating companies were Whirlybird Electronics, Aurora Integrated Systems and Zeus Numerix. The discussions and lectures inspired the students as it kindled dreams and hopes in them.

Aeromodelling :

Aeromodelling in the department received a big boost after Prof. Hemandra Arya’s performance in MICAV 07 and MAV 08. New equipment have been purchased and the department is set to go leaps and bounds in this field with Freshers and Sophomores taking the lead in developing their own model Aircrafts.
