The Department has made nationally significant contributions in aeroservoelastic modeling, playing a pioneering role in the control law development of the unstable fly-by-wire LCA aircraft. Faculty have developed a state-of-the-art aeroservoelastic analysis code, the first of its kind in the country, comparable with leading international tools used in aircraft design.

The Department also pioneered FRP composite technology in India, with applications ranging from aerospace components to civil and industrial products, including replacements for MiG-21 metallic parts—work recognized by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India.

Extensive research has been conducted on the mechanical behavior of textile composites, covering thermo-mechanical response, fracture, and impact behavior, resulting in over 40 international journal publications and three books.

In addition, the Department has developed lightweight composite rehabilitation aids for the disabled, including improved designs of the Jaipur Foot and a carbon-fiber composite Floor Reaction Polio Orthosis.
