Udaan - Student Outreach Program

Department of Aerospace Engineering, IIT Bombay steered a Schools Outreach Programme in 2003. During that year 170 schools and 18,000 school children (many within Maharashtra, but some spread across various parts of India) were visted. These visits took the adventure and thrills of aviation to schools kids.

The students of the Department of Aerospace Engineering at IIT Bombay, have now revived the "Schools Outreach Programme".  This new initiative called "Udaan" will create awareness about Aerospace Engineering among the school students. They are supported by Aerospace Engineering Association of the Department.

Udaan will target schools within Mumbai and equal number of schools in the rural areas surrounding Mumbai. Various activities for schools children during a visit have been evolved:

1) Paper plane/Aeromodeling Workshop and Competition

2) Video shows on aviation & space

3) Short talk about Aircraft, Satellites, LVs, Rockets, etc.

4) Advances in Aerospace Engineering

During such visits Udaan wishes to carry posters that depict indigenously developed Satellites, Launch Vehicles, Rockets, Aircraft, etc. These will be displayed during the talks and left behind for permanent display in science clubs of schools.
